Offset dies allow you to reduce the distance of the hole to the edge of the material when punching angle bar or other bent stock. The minimum distance from the edge of the hole to the outside edge of the die is 1/4” in order to preserve die strength. If required the outside edge of the die can be beveled to nest with inside radius of the material.
When setting up for the offset dies you must to loosen the die holder bolts and adjust to realign with the punch. Most machines come with an adjustable die base as shown in the pictures below. If the offset die is not realigned a safety
issue arises due to the risk of broken punches.
