Small Hole & Start-Hole Machining Services
EDM Drilling (also known as hole poppers or fast hole drilling) uses a precision electrode tube—typically brass—to channel electrical sparks that erode conductive materials. Unlike traditional drilling, this process exerts no mechanical force, allowing for perfectly straight holes in even the hardest substrates.
At Punch Tools, our Joemars Super Drill JM325D utilizes advanced sparking circuits to maximize machining speed while maintaining ultra-high accuracy and excellent flushing power.
Pro Tip: This is the essential first step for creating start-holes for Wire EDM Machining.
Joemars JM325D Precision Setup

Because EDM drilling is a non-contact process, it is the ideal method for adding small holes to inclined faces or irregular geometries where a standard drill bit would "walk" or snap.
The images above demonstrate the meticulous drilling of M2.2 bolts. Using a 0.65mm brass electrode, we create 0.70mm diameter holes precisely centered in the bolts—a level of detail impossible with traditional machining.
From hardened tool steel to tungsten carbide, we have the EDM capabilities to deliver.
