Precision Wire EDM: Solving the "Impossible" Cut
Precise uniformity: Identical, complex internal profiles and sharp corners cut in deep blocks.
Traditional CNC milling is limited by the diameter of the cutting tool and the hardness of the material. At Punch Tools, our Wire EDM capabilities allow us to bypass these limits. Whether you need internal corners with a 0.004" radius or a perfect cut through 6-inch thick heat-treated tool steel, our EDM department delivers consistency that standard machining cannot match.
| Capability | Specifications |
|---|---|
| Precision Tolerance | Up to +/- 0.0001" (0.0025mm) |
| Material Hardness | Inconel, Titanium, Carbide, & Hardened Tool Steel |
| Complex Geometries | Sharp Internal Corners, Splines, & Keyways |
The Advantage of EDM for Tooling
Because Wire EDM is a non-contact process, there is no tool pressure. This is essential for delicate components or materials that are prone to work-hardening. We utilize this technology in-house to produce the high-precision Mandrel Dies and Louver Tools our customers rely on for daily production.
- Post-Heat Treat Cutting: We cut parts after they are hardened to ensure zero warping in the final product.
- Burr-Free Finishes: The sparking process leaves a smooth, satin finish that requires no secondary deburring.
